THE EMBASSY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA INTRODUCES NEW VISA INFORMATION SERVICE

The Embassy of the United States of America in Honduras will introduce a new Visa Information Service for visa applicants. The service, based on similar models operating today in more than 40 countries across Europe, Latin America and Asia, provides timely and accurate information to the public regarding how to apply for a visa to enter the United States of America. The U.S. Visa Information Service is provided to the public on behalf of the U.S. Embassy in Tegucigalpa by Computer Sciences Corporation. The Visa Information Service is the only official source of general visa information from the U.S. Embassy via telephone and is the only authorized method to schedule a personal interview for a nonimmigrant visa.

Starting May 24, 2007, the Visa Information Service will be available between 9:00 am and 7:00 pm, except on U.S. and Honduran holidays.

The Visa Information Service will provide Spanish and English speaking agents who will:

• Answer callers’ questions on how to apply for nonimmigrant and immigrant visas
• Inform nonimmigrant applicants regarding types of visas and documents needed for each type
• Schedule appointments for nonimmigrant visas

How to access the Visa Information Service:

• Obtain a Personal Identification Number (PIN) from any branch of Banco Atlantida for the equivalent of US$13, payable in Lempiras.
• PIN will be activated the next business day .
• Applicants can make multiple calls on one PIN (up to 8 minutes).
• Appointments can be made on one call for the applicant and up to four immediate family members, for a total of five persons (examples: husband, wife, son, daughter, brother, sister, mother and father who share the same residence)
• Applicants need to call from an Hondutel touch tone line and dial 800-792-9200 or 246-8472.

Benefits of the Visa Information Service:

• Provides more flexibility in scheduling
• Reduces waiting times for interview appointments
• Provides the ability to cancel and reschedule
• Better prepares applicants for visa appointments

All existing nonimmigrant visa interview appointments will be honored and applicants will not need to confirm or reschedule them. If an applicant with a previously set appointment needs to cancel or reschedule, they must call the new Visa Information Service.

The U.S. Embassy strongly urges all individuals to apply for their visa three months in advance of planned travel. The Embassy is pleased to announce this new service which will better meet the needs of all visa applicants in Honduras.
